Wheat prices fell by 1.66 per cent to Rs 1,600 per quintal in futures trade today as participants booked profits at prevailing levels.

However, reports of damage to its crop in some parts of Punjab as well as Haryana due to unseasonal rains and hailstorm, capped the fall.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in March month declined by Rs 27, or 1.66 per cent to Rs 1,600 per quintal with an open interest of 30 lots.

Likewise, the wheat for delivery in far-month April contracts traded lower by Rs 21, or 1.32 per cent to Rs 1,565 in 2,350 lots.

Analysts attributed the fall in wheat futures to profit booking by traders after recent gains.
