Wheat prices surged by 0.30 per cent to Rs 1,645 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators enlarged their positions on the back of rising demand.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in July went up by Rs 5, or 0.30 per cent, to Rs 1,645 per quintal with an open interest of 7,740 lots.
In a similar fashion, wheat for delivery in August contracts traded higher by a similar margin to Rs 1,666 per quintal in 19,140 lots.
Analysts said widening of positions by traders following pick up in demand from flour mills in the physical market amid pause in supplies mainly led to rise in wheat prices at futures trade.
