Wheat prices went up by 0.66 per cent to Rs 1,969 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators raised their bets, tracking a firm trend at spot market on upsurge in demand amid pause in arrivals.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in September was trading higher by Rs 13, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 1,969 per quintal with an open interest of 920 lots.
Similarly, wheat for delivery in August contracts rose by Rs 12, or 0.62 per cent, to Rs 1,955 per quintal in 6,780 lots.
Analysts said expanding of positions by traders on the back of rising demand in the physical market amid a pause in arrivals from producing belts, attributed to the rise in wheat prices in futures trade.
