Wheat prices were up by 0.92 per cent to Rs 1,637 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators widened their bets, tracking a firm trend at the spot markets on pick-up in demand.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in May month rose by Rs 15, or 0.92 per cent to Rs 1,637 per quintal with an open interest of 2,170 lots.

Similarly, the wheat for delivery in far-month June contracts gained Rs 13, or 0.79 per cent to Rs 1,662 per quintal in 13,210 lots.

Traders said speculative positions built up by participants after demand from flour mills picked-up in the spot market, led to rise in wheat prices at futures trade.
