Wheat prices moved up by 0.12 per cent to Rs 1,696 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators built up fresh positions.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in May rose Rs 12, or 0.71 per cent, to Rs 1,696 per quintal with an open interest of 3,630 lots.

Likewise, the wheat for delivery in April traded higher by Rs 8, or 0.48 per cent to Rs 1,671 per quintal in 4,550 lots.

Analysts attributed the rise in wheat futures to speculative positions created by traders amid pause in supplies.
