Wheat prices softened by 0.17 per cent to Rs 1,796 per quintal in futures trading today as speculators trimmed positions amid sufficient stocks at the spot markets.

At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in June was trading lower by Rs 3, or 0.17 per cent to Rs 1,796 per quintal with an open interest of 5,540 lots.

Market analysts said, off-loading of positions by traders, triggered by ample stocks on increased arrivals from producing belts in the physical market mainly put pressure on wheat prices.
