Wheat prices softened by 0.35 per cent to Rs 1,717 per quintal in futures trade today as traders trimmed positions, driven by sluggish demand in the spot market against ample stocks.
At the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange, wheat for delivery in August declined by Rs 6, or 0.35 per cent to Rs 1,717 per quintal with an open interest of 23,720 lots.
Similarly, wheat for delivery in far-month September weakened by Rs 2, or 0.11 per cent to Rs 1744 per quintal in 7740 lots.
Traders attributed the slide in wheat futures to weak demand in the spot market against adequate stocks position.
