Wheat, maize slide on adequate supply

Prices of wheat and maize fell up to Rs 50 per quintal at the wholesale market today on increased supplies from producing belts against reduced offtake by flour mills and stockists.

Traders said increased supplies from producing belts against reduced offtake by flour mills and stockists mainly kept pressure on wheat and maize prices.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) declined by Rs 5 to Rs 1,625-1,630 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by the same margin to Rs 1,630-1,635 per 90 kg.

Maize also moved down by Rs 50 to Rs 1,300-1,305, while bajra eased by Rs 15 to Rs 1,085-1,090 per quintal, respectively.
