Wheat and non-basmati rice weakened at the wholesale grains market today owing to slackened demand from flour mills and retailers against sufficient stocks.
However, other grains including rice basmati held steady in thin trade.
Traders said reduced offtake by flour mills in the face of increased arrivals from producing regions mainly attributed the fall in wheat prices.
They said sluggish demand from retailers led to decline in non-basmati rice prices.
In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) shed Rs 5 at Rs 1,695-1,700 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by Rs 10 to Rs 1,700-1,710 per 90 kg.
Sooji also eased by Rs 25 to Rs 975-980 per 50 kg.
In the rice section, non-basmati rice permal raw and wand too declined by Rs 25 each to Rs 1,900-1,950 and Rs 2,125-2,175, while sela lost Rs 100 at Rs 2,400-2,500 per quintal, respectively.
