Wheat prices firmed up by Rs 15 per quintal at the wholesale market today on the back of increased offtake by flour mills against tight supplies from producing belts.

Maize, however, eased owing to subdued demand from consuming industries.

Traders said increased offtake by flour mills against restricted arrivals from producing belts mainly led to the rise in wheat prices.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 15 to Rs 1,625-1,630 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and edged up to Rs 1,630-1,635 from previous level of Rs 1,615-1,620 per 90 kg.

Atta flour mills and maida also edged higher to Rs 860-880 and Rs 920-925 from previous close of Rs 850-865 and Rs 910-925 per 50 kg, respectively.
