Wheat softens on reduced offtake

Wheat prices eased by Rs 10 per quintal at the wholesale grains market today due to reduced offtake by flour mills against adequate stocks position.

However, maize and bajra moved up on pick up in demand from consuming industries.

Traders said besides reduced offtake by flour mills, adequate stocks on ample stocks following improved supplies from producing belts mainly kept pressure on wheat prices.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) declined by Rs 10 to Rs 1,770-1,775 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery followed suit and traded lower by a similar margin to Rs 1,780-1,785 per 90 kg.

On the other hand, maize and bajra edged up by Rs 10 each to Rs 1,460-1,470 and Rs 1,630-1,635 per quintal respectively.
