When Hazarika's voice came alive on Rajpath

Rajpath reverberated today to the soulful sounds of 'Ganga' as Assam paid a tribute to Bhupen Hazarika by dedicating their tableau to the legendary musician at the Republic day parade.

The float was thematically designed with materials drawn from the film and literary career of the singer. Hazarika's famous song 'Ganga' played out as the tableau rolled down the majestic Rajpath with members in the audience singing along.

The tablaeau showed a big boat with its body and mast carrying the images of the films that he had worked in as an actor, director and a singer.

A make-believe filmmaker rolling a camera was stationed on the boat in nod to his filmmaking career, as boatmen pulled their oars in unison.
 

The Padma Bhushan awardee, apart from being honoured with a Dadasaheb Phalke Award, also had won the President's National Award for Best Filmmaker three times.

His songs, known to carry messages of humanity and brotherhood have benn translated into many languages including. He died in 2011.
