The branch of a dried up tree in a remote corner of Solapur district snapped - and broke a thousand hearts.

For it was no ordinary tree, but the one on which 'Archie' and 'Parshya', the lead pair of Marathi cinema's highest ever grosser "Sairat" perched on, in a song sequence.

After the film's immense popularity, the tree, located in Karmala taluka, became a tourist spot of sorts and a popular 'selfie' points, where couples made a beeline to take snaps.

Apparently unable to bear so much load, the dried tree branch broke, much to the dismay of 'selfie' enthusiasts and Sairat fans.

The 2016 film, directed by Nagraj Manjule, starred a school student, Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar, in their first outing in films.

It ran in around 450 screens in Maharashtra and another 200 outside the state, becoming the first Marathi film to cross Rs 100 crore in box office collections.

The film is being remade in Kannada with the title "Manasu Mallige" which is set for release next month. Rinku Rajguru will be acting in the lead female role in the Kannada version too.
