The Lucknow bench of the court, comprising justices Uma Nath Singh and Virendra Kumar Dixit, passed the order on a petition seeking direction for maintaining Green Park Stadium at Kanpur.

On December 20 last year, the petitioner Satish Mishra had moved the court claiming that in spite of a release of Rs 38 crore by the BCCI to the UP government for renovation and maintenance of the stadium, no work was done.

Due to this reason "no international cricket match had been organised in recent past in the stadium," the petitioner had alleged.

The court then issued notices to the respondents, BCCI and UP Cricket Association, and had fixed January 10 as next date.

On January 10, the court issued notice to BCCI and a bailable warrant against secretary of UPCA.

"On December 20, we had directed the appearance of secretary sports of the state and secretary UPCA. Secretary sports Suresh Chandra is present in the court whereas secretary UPCA has not come nor has any application been filed for exemption from personal appearance," the court had observed.

Today, BCCI secretary appeared before the bench, whereas UPCA was represented by joint secretary Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui.

The court today asked that why the Green Park could not be handed over to the UPCA by the state government on a 30 years lease.

The government counsel submitted that it could be done.

The bench while directing the government to file its reply fixed February 4 as the next date of hearing.
