Raising the issue of corruption, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today asked why Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was silent on it and accused her government of "patronising fake currency racket and infiltration from Bangladesh."
"Amabasya (darkness) prevailed in Bengal during the Trinamool Congress rule," he told an election meeting here in North 24 Parganas district.
"Earlier when there was any instance of corruption, Didi used to raise her voice against it. Five years back she had given the call for paribarton (change) but now she herself has changed," he said.

Referring to Narada sting operation against TMC leaders, Modi said "It was shown in front of the camera. Have they (TMC leaders) not sold Bengal and the future of the youth ? The collapse of (Vivekananda Road) flyover is another example of corruption. Will you again vote for them ?"
On Saradha chit fund scam, he said everybody knows who were involved in it, who helped them, who patronized them and who took the benefits.
"Corruption is the biggest enemy of this country," he said.
"Had there been proper banking facilities there wouldn't have been Saradha chit fund scam. The poor people went to Saradha to deposit their money as there was no banking facilities," he said.
Charging TMC government with patronizing fake currency racket and Bangladeshi infiltration, he said "There is not a single issue on which TMC government has worked properly. There was fake currency racket, Bangladeshi infiltration and increase in unemployment. Local youth did not get employment while infiltrators got jobs."
"When there was Left regime, Didi used to shout that there is need for change. After the Left was ousted from power people had hoped that there would be a new ray of hope in Bengal. But the fact is in it has been Amavasya in Bengal in the last five years," he added.
