Press Trust of India Ranchi
CITU national general secretary Tapen Sen, today sought to know why the Narendra Modi government was not taking "unutilised" land allotted for the creation of Special Economic Zones (SEZ).

"There is no dearth of land in the country to create infrastructure. Fifty per cent of land allotted to SEZs is still lying unutilised in the country for the last six to eight years," Sen told reporters here.

Fearing the land might go to real estate business, he suggested for a survey of land held by PSUs under the government's supervision to take the unutilised land from both state and central industrial units "instead of going into green areas."

"Some industrial units are even closed, but land is lying unutilised," the CITU general secretary claimed.

He reminded the BJP that the Land Acquisition Bill, 2013 was passed by Parliament with the support of BJP. "Only the Left parties had moved some amendments to protect the bill," he added.
