BJP today attacked the TRS Government in Telangana over its decision to organise the Independence Day celebrations in the historic Golconda Fort.

"I ask this Government, what is the criteria for you to conduct the national festival in Golconda fort. What does this symbolise or signify? It should be told to people. If you hoist national flag from the fort from where dictators ruled, what is the reason for it?

"If the national flag is to be hoisted from Golconda fort, it should be on September 17, the Telangana Liberation Day. Then it would be justified for Telangana people and the event," Telangana BJP President G Kishan Reddy told reporters here.

On Monday, the Telangana Government announced that the main event on August 15 will be organised at the medieval era structure here.

The aim of conducting the function inside Golconda Fort is to highlight Telangana's rich cultural heritage, the Government had said.

Referring to protests by farmers against erratic power supply, Reddy alleged the TRS Government gave more importance to things like changing the uniform of police, giving Rs 1 crore to tennis Sania Mirza, but not to the plight of agriculturists.
