Maharashtra Congress today took a dig at Shiv Sena and BJP, saying that NDA partners were probably not consulted by them while drafting manifesto which promises modernisation of Madrasas.

"It appears that alliance partners in NDA were not consulted. The double standard of Shiv Sena and BJP was exposed by the BJP's manifesto which mentions modernisation of Madrasas among the promises," state Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant said.

BJP, in its manifesto, has said that minority educational system and institutions will be strengthened and modernised and national Madrasa modernisation programme would be initiated.

Sawant said when Maharashtra government had approved a proposal for modernisation of Madarsas which contemplated linking them to the mainstream system, leaders from the saffron parties were up in the arms and slammed it.

Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray had called Congress-NCP fundamentalist, while state BJP chief Devendra Fadnavis had alleged that the decision was taken considering the vote-bank.

"Today's decision has exposed them and has brought to the fore their double-standard," Sawant added.
