Widespread rains in North

Widespread rains in North India brought relief from humid weather conditions today while major rivers in Uttar Pradesh continued to flow in spate.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Amarnath yatra was suspended today from Jammu due to bad weather, while the 294-km Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the second day running due to landslides triggered by heavy rains.

Residents of the national Capital woke up to a pleasant morning as the city remained enveloped by cloud after witnessing overnight rains.

Overcast conditions greeted the spectators who had thronged to witness the Independence Day celebrations at the Red Fort.

According to the Meteorological department, Delhi received 8.6 mm rains till this morning. Some parts of the city received scattered rains at around 9 AM.
 

Temperature at Safdurjung weather station was recorded at 28.2 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature in the city remained below normal.

In UP, South-West monsoon remained active leading to moderate to rather heavy rains and thundershowers at many parts of the state.

Central Water Commission sources said that the Ganga river remained in spate all along its course flowing above the danger mark at Fatehpur, Phaphamau, Varanasi, Gazipur and Ballia while the Yamuna river was still flowing above the red mark at Naini.

Heavy rains also lashed several parts of Punjab while Haryana received light to moderate showers.

Chandigarh, the common capital of the two states, was lashed by showers this morning, causing a dip in mercury.

Faridkot got 127 mm rains, followed by Gurdaspur, which received 105 mm rains. Gurgaon witnessed 22 mm rains.

Rains also lashed several parts of Rajasthan with Barmer recording a maximum of 72.7 mm, followed by Jaisalmer at 67.2 mm.
