A 38-year-old widow allegedly tried to commit suicide today by setting herself ablaze in Dharmapauri in the district, police said.
S Sharada, was residing with a married person B Ravi (40) since the last two years, Jagtial Deputy Superintendent of Police K Rajendra Prasad said.
Her husband passed away eight years back. It was alleged that Ravi suspected her character and was beating her mercilessly.
Yesterday, she was beaten by Ravi, following which she tried to kill herself by pouring kerosene and set herself on fire near her house, he said.
People who gathered at the spot save her and informed police after which she was rushed to a Jagtial Government Hospital with 80 per cent burn injuries and her condition is stated to be critical, the officer said.
A case has been registered against Ravi under relevant sections of IPC and investigations are underway, police said.
