A widow, who was on fast unto death for the past twelve days protesting alleged police inaction in arresting the accused who had abetted her husband to commit suicide, ended her fast today after assurances from senior police officers.
Ranjit Kaur, who was on fast unto death, ended her agitation following assurance given by Batala SSP Tulsi Ram, of prompt action in the case.
Kaur, a resident of Murgi Mohall, Batala had alleged that the police were not arresting the accused who had abetted her husband Kunan Singh to commit suicide on March 16.

"Though my husband had already returned the borrowed amount, Mohan Singh along with his family members often came to our house and demanded more money from us," she alleged and added, her husband consumed poison and died at Guru Nanak hospital in Amritsar, unable to bear the tension.
She also alleged that a police officer of the Civil Lines police station was pressurising her to come to a deal with Mohan Singh.
Refuting allegations of partiality, SSP, Batala said police would proceed according to law.
