Widow killed in MP for "practicing witchcraft"

A 65-year-old widow was hacked to death in her sleep allegedly by a man on suspicion of practicing witchcraft or black magic, police said today.

The accused, Man Singh Raikwar (28), has been arrested, they said.

The 28-year-old allegedly attacked the victim, Ulfat Bi, with an axe around midnight last night while she was sleeping outside her house in Salaiya village, 80km from here, Silwani Police Station Inspector RD Sharma said.

Raikwar lost her aunt a year ago and he suspected her death was caused by black magic practiced by Ulfat, he said.

The man has been charged with murder, the inspector said.
