a 45-year-old man was critically injured today when a herd of wild boars attacked him at Vekta village under Rajnagar police station, jurisdiction, the police said.
The injured was identified as Rabindra Das, a native of Vekta lying close to the Bhitarkanika wildlife sanctuary.
He was first taken to a local hospital and then shifted to S.C.B Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, said Divisional Forest Officer, Rajnagar Mangrove (wildlife) Forest Division, Kedar Kumar Swain.

Violence had erupted in sanctuary-side Sasanapeta village on October 18, 2013 following the death of a local by attack by wild boars. The irate residents had set ablaze the nearby Gahirmatha forest range office and triggered extensive damage to forest department properties including motorized sea-worthy vessels earmarked for turtle protection programme.
