Wild elephant found dead in UP

A wild elephant stated to be over 40-years-old was today found dead in Makanpur beat of Pallia range in north Kheri forest division here.

"No major injuries were detected on the carcass of the elephant. The death appears to be natural. After the postmortem examination tomorrow, the exact cause of the death would be established," Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Neeraj Kumar said.

The dead elephant is reported to have strayed away from Dudhwa National Park (DNP) which is in close proximity to the area where the body was recovered.

Kumar said that the wild elephant population existed only in Dudhwa forests.
