A wild elephant trampled one person to death, injured another and damaged two houses along the Indo-Bhutan border in Assam's Baksa district today, official sources said.
The elephant strayed into Guabari village in Nagrijuli area from the neighbouring Bhutan forests and damaged two houses before killing one and injuring another.
The deceased has been identified as Amulya Barman while the injured, Ramani Biswas, has been admitted to Guwahati Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Elephants frequently create havoc in the area and locals alleged that though the forest department has time and again been informed about the problem, no steps have been taken by the officials in this regard.
