Wildlife meat, arms and ammunitions seized

A large quantity of wildlife meat and arms and ammunitions were seized from a farm house on the city outskirts and a man taken into custody in this connection, police said.

Based on information given by an NGO, some officials from forest department raided the house of one Sathyanathan, son-in law of a former IFS officer, and seized 25 kgs of wild boar meat, 17 kgs of deer meat and a dead civet cat, police said.

Besides, two double barrel guns, a 12 bore rifle and air gun and over 200 cartridges, some of them apparently imported, were also recovered from the place, they said.
 

Stating that head of wild boar and feathers of wild hen were unearthed from the premises, located on the fringe of reserve forest area coming under Boluvampatti, they said that the meat were kept in deep freezer in small packets.

Sathyanathan's brother-in-law has also been taken into custody for interrogation, they said.

When contacted, District Forest Officer Senthilkumar said "we have taken two persons into custody and a detailed inquiry is on. They will be handed over to police for further investigation, he said.
