The Andhra Pradesh government today said over five lakh houses will be built for the urban poor in the state under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) in the next 15 months.
Andhra Pradesh Minister of Housing and Urban Development P Narayana said this during a meeting with Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri here, an official release said.
Noting that Andhra Pradesh has been sanctioned the highest number of houses under PMAY (Urban), the Minister of State (independent charge), Housing and Urban Affairs enquired about the progress of the mission in the state.

Narayana informed Puri the state government has spent considerable time in identifying appropriate technology for construction of houses under PMAY (Urban).
He also said construction of 5.39 lakh houses for the urban poor, sanctioned by the Centre under PMAY(Urban) will be completed in the next 15 months.
The Andhra Pradesh minister also discussed with Puri the proposal of Vijayawada Metro Rail project and sought early clearance for it.
Puri said it (clearance to the metro rail project) will be given "due consideration", keeping in view the focus of the state government on improving public transport infrastructure.
