Firming up route rationalisation plan to streamline public transport in the city, Delhi government has said it will consider the suggestions of various departments including the Delhi Metro which has sought modifications so that its ridership is not affected.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) earlier this month has written to Transport department of Delhi government claiming that the plan to strengthen bus services on 74 routes will affect ridership of Metro trains.

A Delhi government functionary on Friday said, "We will look into all the comments including that of DMRC before finalisation of route rationalisation. Efforts are on to do it at the earliest possible," he said.

Delhi Metro in its communication to Transport department stated "It has been observed that there are 74 routes which are either parallel to Metro network or existing Metro feeder routes. Operation of such parallel services will not only hamper the ridership of Metro network but it would render under-utilisation of public transport as well as government resources."

The DMRC requested the government to modify the specified routes in a manner that the buses are not operated parallel to the Metro train network.

Delhi government wants to implement the route rationalisation plan in a holistic manner and internal process is on to do so, said the government functionary.

"A draft report on route rationalisation has been prepared which is sent for comments of concerned departments including Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) and Delhi Traffic Police. A final view on route rationalisation will be formed after all the comments are received," he said.

The route rationalisation plan being finalised by the Transport department seeks to augment optimisation of public transport vehicles including buses to enhance their frequency and reach to commuters.

It covers all routes of DTC and Cluster buses, and last mile connectivity vehicles including RTVs and Gramin Sewa.
