Kerala government today said it will take stern action to put an end to "bomb politics" in the state, referring to the June 6 incident in which two CPI-M workers were killed in a blast while they were secretly engaged in making bombs.
Making a statement on the incident in the assembly under Rule 300, state Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said the deceased and the two seriously injured in the blast were active local CPI(M) workers.
As per the preliminary report, the blast occurred when they were secretly engaged in making bombs at Chettakandi area and there was no attack from external forces, he said.
Terming the incident as "gruesome", he said that the police has also recovered a steel bomb from a place near the house of one of the injured.
"It can be correctly assumed that if the explosion had not occurred, the bombs would have been used against political rivals," he said, adding, government would take stern action to put an end to "bomb politics" in the state.
Pannur is one of the areas in politically sensitive Kannur district which frequently witnessses political violence.
Meanwhile, CPI(M) yesterday distanced itself from the incident and demanded a comprehensive probe.
