Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh today promised to end the contractual system of appointment of teachers if the party is voted to power in the state.
Interacting with teachers at a 'Coffee With Captain' event here, he said, "You all should have been absorbed but the government changed and the Akalis didn't look into it. I am against contractual recruitment of teachers, we will ensure to get rid of this system."
Over 2,200 teachers of primary, secondary schools and colleges from more than 18 districts participated in the event, a release by poll strategist Prashant Kishor's I-PAC team said.

He said teachers should be posted in their villages and ensured that basic requirements of school children will be met.
Amarinder said he would do whatever is required to "fix" the education system and ensure that proper education is provided in government schools on par with the private ones.
