"The orders of honorable high court have been received and Delhi Police will ensure to follow the directions," a Delhi Police statement said.

Defying a ban imposed by municipal corporation, a large number of people today offered prayers at Subhash Park, where what is believed to be the ruins of Mughal-era Akbarabadi mosque was discovered early this month during Delhi Metro construction.

The Delhi High Court today ordered stopping of construction of the mosque and directed the local civic authority to immediately hand over the site to the ASI to ascertain if there were any remains of Mughal era structure there.

It also asked police to give full assistance to MCD by deploying sufficient police force.
