"We want that the AICC decision asking Congress-ruled states to provide three additional subsidised cylinders be implemented. Let the government work out the logistics," Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Manikrao Thakre said.
AICC directed the party-ruled states to raise the annual cap of subsidised LPG cylinders from six to nine per household.
The state will have to incur the financial burden of Rs 2400 crore if it has to provide additional subsidised LPG cylinders to all 1.71 crore consumers. There are five crore LPG cylinders in the state.
"Discussions are on whether the subsidies can be provided only to BPL families or the holders of Orange and Yellow ration card as well," according to government officials.
NCP, the coalition partner in Democratic Front (DF) government, feels the rich should be kept out of the subsidies, and concessions should be extended as per number of members in family.
