Former Home Minister P Chidambaram today said the Modi government has "now found merit" in the CCTNS, an ambitious internal security project conceived by the previous UPA government, and asked whether it would also accept the National Counter Terrorism Centre.
"Thank God. Government found merit in CCTNS. Will the funds be given now to complete the project?," he said in his reaction to the Union Cabinet's nod for time-bound completion of the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networking Systems project to synchronise databases of security organisations across the country after its integration with key components of the criminal justice system.
Chidambaram, the brain behind the CCTNS and National Counter Terrorism Centre when he was Home Minister in the aftermath of the 26/11 attacks in 2008, queried, "will government also find merit in NCTC, especially post Paris and will government immediately announce its constitution.
