A senior IPS officer in Telangana Wednesday said he would undertake a social awareness campaign including 'Swachhta Abhiyan' as there is apparently "no work" in his present post as Commissioner, Printing, Stationery and Stores Purchase.

V K Singh, in the ADGP rank, who was transferred to his current post recently from being the Director General (Prisons and Correctional Services), said "coming to the new department overnight on transfer was a surprise.

However, I have got many more such transfers in the united Andhra Pradesh."

Singh told reporters here that he finds it almost impossible to turn around the printing and stationery department because "it has no resources and it has become totally outdated."

"As there is almost nil work in this charge and I can't sit idle, I want to do that I always cherish--launching a social movement to promote literacy, make a crime-free society, Haritha Haram, 'Swachhta Abhiyan', good governance, a corruption-free state and a vibrant democracy," Singh said.

According to him, as of now around 600 employees are working in the printing and stationery department which has 1,500 sanctioned posts and the state is incurring expenses of Rs 48 crore annually while the department is generating revenue of only Rs 2 crore every year.

He said he will write to the state government for its revival.

"Let the government decide. Unless government decides to retrieve it, nothing could be done," he said.

Singh claimed he made Hyderabad beggar-free, when he was DG Prisons and now wants to make it garbage-free.

"By continuing in my current post, I will also go to different parts of Telangana to meet the people and spread social awareness. I have a dream to improve Telangana state and society like I improved the jails.

Now, I have decided to go to different areas in Hyderabad every week and work for cleanliness," Singh said.

Under Singhs tenure, the Telangana Prisons Department is known for starting many social service initiatives, including setting up of 'Anand Ashrams' (special homes) for rehabilitation of beggars in Chanchalguda and Cherlapalli (central prisons) in the city.

Singh said some reports which claimed that he has decided to resign as he got a punishment posting had pained him.

"I want to make it clear that I never asked for any posting in my career.I have got transfer after six-nine months, but I always worked as a dedicated soldier of the government.

I don't derive anything out of such posting or for that matter any good posting. It is only a bigger responsibility," Singh added.
