"I have always said that I will not join any party or be part of party politics," Bhattacharya said in response to the olive branch offered by the saffron party.
"I will continue to fight for the locals and the indigenous people of the state. The struggle will continue," Bhattacharya said.
His remarks came a day after newly inducted state BJP chief Sarbananda Sonowal called upon Bhattacharya to join the party and fight unitedly against illegal immigration into the state.
Sonowal and Bhattacharya had served as the President and General Secretary, respectively, of AASU during the 1990s.
While Sonowal later joined Asom Gana Parishad and went on to become an MLA and MP after leaving AASU in 1999 and subsequently shifted to BJP, Bhattacharjya continued in AASU and took the post of Advisor.
Meanwhile, AGP Working President Atul Bora (Junior) has also invited Bhattacharya to join the regional party.
