Will Smith to host Nat Geo series 'One Strange Rock'

Actor Will Smith has been tapped as the host of National Geographic's new 10-episode global event series "One Strange Rock".

The 49-year-old actor shared a announced short teaser video on his Facebook and announced that he was joining the project by filmmaker Darren Aronofsky and producer Jane Root.

It will tell story of Earth and why it is special and uniquely brimming with life among a largely unknown but harsh cosmic arena. Smith will guide viewers on an epic journey across the globe and into outer space.

"I am thrilled to have Will Smith on board to guide our series. His charisma, intelligence and humanity will add greatly to the project, helping welcome viewers into this unique narrative about the mind-blowing wonders that make life on Earth possible," Aronofsky said in a statement, reported Deadline.
 

The series also features a group of astronauts made up of Chris Hadfield, Jeff Hoffman, Mae Jemison, Jerry Linenger, Mike Massimino, Leland Melvin, Nicole Stott, and Peggy Whitson giving their unique perspectives on the globe.

The project will be executive produced by Aronofsky along with Root, Ari Handel, Peter Lovering, Scott Franklin, Tim Pastore, and Matt Renner. The series is produced by Nutopia, Protozoa Pictures, and Overbrook Entertainment.
