Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh today assured the Assembly that the state government would take legal recourse against a high court order imposing a ban on plying of vehicles on sealed and restricted roads in Shimla town.
Replying to a calling attention tabled by Suresh Bhardwaj of BJP, the chief minister said that the government would explore all options to ensure that the resident of Shimla did not face any inconvenience or hardship.
In case the High Court did not give any relief, the government would contemplate the next course of action, Singh said, adding that "all options are open before the state government".
Raising the issue, Bhardwaj expressed his anguished over the plight of vehicle owners, who have been barred from reaching their houses, and said that restrictions have also been put on registration of new vehicles by the high court.
He urged the government to file appeal in the Supreme Court, if the need arises.
He said that the recent incident of challaning of vehicle of a high court judge in Shimla town, prompted the court to take suo motu action and barring movement even of those vehicles which had been issued permits though the order was later amended twice.
"Residences of some members of state assembly were located in the vicinity of sealed roads. However, they have also been barred from plying their vehicles on these roads," the BJP member said.
He demanded that state move to the Supreme Court to revoke the order.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court had last month banned with immediate effect plying of almost all vehicles on sealed and restricted roads in Shimla till further orders and declared the roads between Shimla Club and Lift and AG Chowk to CTO as 'no vehicle zone'.
