: Manitaneya Jananayaka Katchi General Secretary and MLA, Tamimun Ansari today said he would take legal steps on the issue of releasing innocent Muslims languishing in various jails in the country, particularly in Tamil Nadu.

Speaking to reporters here, Ansari, who contested the May 16 assembly polls in alliance with AIADMK, said many Muslim youths are reportedly still languishing in jails despite their jail term ending. Considering this, he would take legal steps to seek their release.

Claiming that his party was gaining support from he masses, particularly the Muslim community, Ansari said it will continue to be with AIADMK in the coming civic polls.

On DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi questioning the timing of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's congrtulatoryt message to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on May 19, he said the reason could be the trends aired on TV channels and other media, which projected an AIADMK win.

However, a veteran politician like Karunadnidhi should not have made such confusing remarks on the people's mandate, he said.
