A day after DMK chief M Karunanidhi ruled out any alliance with it for Lok Sabha polls, Congress today said it would talk to various political parties in Tamil Nadu to form an alliance for the general elections.

"Our Tamil Nadu unit will talk to political parties here and consult the party leadership in forming an alliance to face the general elections next year," Minister of State for PMO V Narayanasamy said here today.

The MoS parried a question on whether DMK's decision was a setback to Congress, merely saying "It is DMK's decision. I cannot comment on another political party's decision."

He said political parties form an alliance during polls considering many issues. "DMK cut off ties some six to seven months back and they also came out of the Cabinet, which you all know. Now they have officially said that," he said.

DMK president Karunanidhi had yesterday ruled out any alliance with its former ally for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls in the party's General Council meeting here.

Karunanidhi had made the announcement in his concluding remarks at the meeting of the party's key decision-making body, the General Council.
