Wine smuggled for panchayat polls seized, 2 arrested

The district excise department has seized 247 cartons of wine, allegedly smuggled for panchayat elections and arrested two people in this connection, an official said today.

We intercepted a canter at Bhalwa check post under Jansath police station last evening and seized 247 cartons of liquor, district excise officer Karunendra Singh said.

The wine was smuggled from Haryana and was to be used for the panchayat elections slated later this year, he said.

The arrested duo was identified as Sunder and Kapil, Singh said, adding that the accused have confessed to their crime.

We have also recovered two pistols from the duo, police added.
