Winter approaching in north India

Temperatures dipped in several parts of north India today as the wintry conditions gradually started advancing in the region.

In the national capital, perceptible nip in the air and shallow fog early in the morning are heralding the onset of winter.

According to India Meteorological Department Director B P Yadav, there are clear indications suggesting that winter is approaching.

"Western disturbances have become more frequent as compared to last year, the wind pattern has changed and there is a dip in the temperature particularly at night time," Yadav said.

The maximum temperature today settled at 32.3 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year while the minimum was recorded two notches below the normal at 16.6 degrees.
 

The humidity in air wavered between 39 and 88 per cent.

With mercury dipping in Rajasthan, tourists in Mount Abu shivered at the lowest temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.

Mercury fluctuated by one to three degrees Celsius giving wintry feeling at many places in the state last night.

Whereas in plains, Churu and Sriganganagar recorded the minimum temperature of 14.2 degrees Celsius.

Banasthali recorded a minimum of 16.3, Pilani 16.5, Chittorgarh and Udaipur 17.0 each, Sawaimadhopur 17.3, and Jaipur 17.8 degrees Celsius, while western districts of Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Barmer, Bikaner recorded the minimum temperature in the range of 19 to 21 degrees.
