Famous ski resort Gulmarg and other high altitude areas in Kashmir today experienced fresh snowfall, bringing back winter chill in the valley.
The snowing started this morning in higher reaches, including scenic Gulmarg, the star attraction for tourists during winter, officials said.
So far, nearly six inches of snow had accumulated on higher hills, they said.
Reports of snowfall were also received from Z-Gali, Sadhna top, Razdan top, Gurez, Sonamarg, Khilanmarg, Yousmarg and Amarnath cave shrine, the officials said.
The plains, including summer capital Srinagar, were lashed by intermittent rains resulting in considerable drop in mercury.
The change in weather is due to a western disturbance, a Met office spokesman said.
"Light to moderate rains or snow will occur at a few places over Jammu and Kashmir regions and isolated places in Ladakh in the next couple of days under the influence of a western disturbance," he said.
The maximum temperature recorded in Srinagar was 8.4 degrees celsius, a drop of six degrees compared to yesterday.
The minimum was up by a degree to settle at 3.3 degrees, the spokesman said.
