The ongoing winter session of the Delhi Assembly was today extended till December 4 aimed at facilitating the smooth passage of several legislations including the Jan Lokpal Bill which the AAP cabinet recently cleared.

AAP chief whip Jagdeep Singh moved a proposal in this regard which was passed by the House through voice vote, in the absence of all the three BJP legislators.

The government had hinted towards the route of extension on November 20 saying that it was looking to table the Lokpal Bill "next to next week", clearly suggesting that the session would go beyond November 28, as earlier scheduled.

Other than the Lokpal Bill, the other major draft legislations include the Amendment in Delhi Right to Citizens Time Bound Service Delivery Act, proposal to hike the salaries and allowances of MLAs, Education Act amendment Bill etc.

The government would table the Lokpal Bill first and then send it to the Lt Governor notwithstanding opposition charges that such a move would amount to Transaction of Business Rules.
