Witchcraft takes two lives

At least two persons were allegedly killed and later their bodies cremated in a forest by villagers after suspecting them of practising witchcraft, police said.

The incident took place yesterday at Kudangapur village under Adaba police station limits in Gajapati district. "The police has registred a case and investigating into the matter," said Gajapati SP (in-charge) S K Mishra.

As reported to the police, the victims, identified as Ganga Gamang and Biranchi Bastaraya, were suspected to be practising sorcery. They also believed that four persons of the village died in a span of only one year due to the sorcery by the duo.
 

Though the family members of the victims did not lodge any complaint, the police on its own take up the case. As the tribal hamlet is remotely located and is about 100 km from Paralakhemundi.
