With the DTC buses not plying due to a strike, ridership in Delhi Metro today saw a spike of nearly 2 lakh passengers from its average footfall on Mondays.
"Mondays' average ridership at 8 pm is around 21 lakh. But at 8 pm today, it was recored at 22.92 lakh," a senior official of the DMRC said.
Bus services remained crippled across the city due to the strike by DTC employees over the killing of a bus driver in a road rage case. The striking drivers demanded a compensation of Rs one crore to the kin of the deceased.
Suspension of bus services diverted road traffic to rail routes. Rush hours saw long queues of people jostling for space at metro stations.
Though metro is a fast and comfortable mode of transport in the national capital, many commuters still travel by bus, especially for shorter routes.
Cases of overcharging by auto-rickshaws were also reported from different parts of the city.
