Expressing dissatisfaction at their agitation, Madras High Court today directed students of Dr Ambedkar Government Law College to withdraw their stir against a proposal to shift their institution from the High Court premises here to the city outskirts.
When a petition by a student over the issue came up for hearing, a Division Bench comprising Justice Satish K Agnihotri and Justice M Venugopal directed the counsel for the petitioner to ask the students to first attend the classes and to withdraw agitation.
Justice Agnihotri said the way in which the students behaved yesterday, when they staged a road roko leading to police lathicharge, was not in a good taste.

Counsel for the petitioner submitted that when the students approached the Secretary, Law Department, Director, Legal Studies, the Principal of the law college to know truth about shifting of the institution to suburban Sriperumbudur, none of them disclosed the real fact for shifting the college.
The petitioner contended that though the existing building was constructed 120 years back, "it has the strength to remain for another 500 years more".
If the college remained in the High Court premises, they will get more experience and quality education, the petitioner submitted and prayed for an interim injunction restraining the authorities from shifting the institution.
The petitioner also sought for an interim direction to constitute a committee along with student representatives before taking any decision on shifting the college.
The petitioner also prayed to take appropriate action against the police officials who "attacked" the students during their agitation.
