BJP Tamil Nadu unit vice president, Vanati Srinivasan today said she will take up the issue of one per cent excise duty proposed on gold jewellery, due to which jewellers across the country, are on an indefinite agitation.

However, it has to be noted that the policy changes were made to curb the circulation of black money, Vanati, the party candidate for Coimbatore South Constituency for the May 16 assembly elections, where a good number of voters depended on gold business, said.

She was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of launching a website for the constituency for the benefit of voters to post their requirements, grievances and suggestions to develop the constituency, which, she alleged, was neglected by the present ruling party MLA.

On poll prospects, she claimed that the multi-cornered contest has swayed the tide in favour of BJP in the state, since new voters were preferring the party, as they have seen the rules of both DMK and AIADMK.

She claimed that the Peoples Welfare Front had no formula or policies and that the alliance partners were disgruntled over having DMDK chief Vijayakant as the chief ministerial candidate.

Vanati said traffic management and parking lots, coupled with water problems, sanitation and other basic amenities were among the top priorities for the constituency.
