Pune police today arrested four people including three women for allegedly trying to sell a one-month-old boy for Rs three lakh.

Police said the arrested women included the mother of the baby boy.

"We have arrested Lalita Somnath Patil (23), a resident of Dombivli, Asha Ahire (27), a resident of Ulhasnagar, Dipti Kharat (30) and Keshav Dhende (42), both from Pune," said a police officer from Faraskhana police station here.

Patil is the mother of the baby. She and her friends -- Kharat and Ahire -- got in touch with Dhende who runs an orphanage in the city to help them sell the child, police said.

"We received a tip-off that the accused had come to Kasba area and arrested them," said the police officer.

"We are probing whether Dhende had sold infants in the past," he said.
