A Punjab police ASI has been accused of tearing clothes of a woman summoned to Bundala police station to bring medicines for her husband who was lodged there.

Amritsar rural SSP Manmohan Singh today said a probe has been ordered into the allegations levelled by the woman, after members of Punjab Congress women's wing led by Vice-President Nimisha Mehta staged protest outside the Bundala police post yesterday, seeking ASI's dismissal and suspension of other cops who forced the victim to go for a compromise.

Mehta said the woman, in her 20s, was summoned to the police station late Wednesday night to bring medicines for her husband who was put behind bars for his alleged connection with an NDPS case at Amritsar.

The accused ASI stopped her and allegedly tore her clothes, while other cops thrashed her son when he protested, Mehta alleged.

The Women's wing Congress leader further alleged that the victim was forced to go for a compromise after she approached police to register a complaint against the accused ASI.
