All the CCTV cameras installed at New Delhi Railway Station were checked. After zeroing in on some suspects, a drive was launched.
"On December 21, Aditi and her husband joined the investigation and the railway station was searched. During the search, a woman was stopped by police party in the circulating area of Ajmeri Gate side," he said.
The complainant and her husband informed police that they had seen her running away from them when their valuables were stolen.
The woman has been identified as Laxmi, he said.
"Initially she denied having knowledge about the matter but after sustained interrogation she admitted her crime. The stolen jewellery has been recovered and she has been arrested," he added.
She has been previously involved in three cases of thefts at Shalimar Bagh, New Delhi railway station and Old Delhi railway station respectively.
Laxmi said that her husband is a drug addict and does not take care of the family.
"She started committing crime when she was young and has been involved in this crime for the last 20 years. She roams in railway stations and markets and being a woman, no one, including police, suspects her," he said.
